Custer, South Dakota

After we got back from our ride to see the Presidents at Mt. Rushmore Vanessa suggested we visit the Crazy Horse Memorial in Custer, a short drive into town. We were so glad we decided to go.

The monument can be seen from all over but the $10 admission to the grounds is well worth the sawbuck. There is a museum, residence, shops, restaurants and a great public area. We stayed for the lazer light show, good music, great colors, spectacular but a bit commercial. I would have preferred more of a native american tone.

This monument is large beyond imagination. The plan is in place to create a University of Native Americans at the site of the monument. The stone work will be multi-generational. An effort that seems to be embraced by those who are there and responsible. The theme that is repeated over and over is Never Forget Your Dreams.

Next, we stop and at the best equestrian camp in Iowa, Brushy Creek and meet Al and Nicki Oliver.
