West to the Tetons '05 Report from the Road July 8 - 10, 2005 July 10, 2005 From Base camp at Puzzleface Ranch Hoback River and the Sawtooth Range Shoal Creek Ride with The Teton Backcountry Horsemen Report below:
We arrived in Jackson, WY July 8 PM at 5. Traffic was intense but we found the Puzzleface Ranch. It is on WY Rt 22 on the road to Wilson. They have a great staff and two dedicated owners who have made their mark in Jackson. The Tetons are a spectacular sight. Puzzleface Ranch gave us a site with full view of Grand Teton. We pulled out our barbeque and cooked up a couple of steaks and enjoyed a cold beverage or 3. Friday was the day to travel the National Parks. Grand Teton National Park. We arrived just as Old Faithful did its thing. Some of the nice sizes crowd was there for hours awaiting its splendor. I know that my insurance agent would not believe a claim that a Bison hit us so Vanessa gave the beast a wide birth when it approached the truck in Yellowstone Friday afternoon. Saturday became a dream come true when we rode with the Teton Backcountry Horsemen (TBCH)in the Hobeck region south of Jackson in the Teton National Forest. Here's a tip. If you are looking for riding during your travels search the internet for Trail Rides and the state you wiill be in. Look for local riding clubs in the area you will be in and see what they are up to the weekend you are there. They might verywell be having a ride. Contact them and see if they would like some company. They always do. We were welcomed by the TBCH club with a 30+ rider turnout! One of the riders exclaimed that the turnout was larger than the Christmas Party. The wild flowers were in full bloom, a unique event to say the least. The other riders agreed that they could not remember when the flowers were so pleantiful. The color was a result of the unusually wet spring season. Well, we lucked out once again. This great group of riders were a joy to meet and get to know. Thanks to Al Parker and all the TBCH.
