** An excerpt from the Collection It was his 8th birthday. Trevor smiled as the smoke rose into the light that hung above the kitchen table. He had just blown out all the candles on the cake! Bonnie and Keith, his parents, with all the guests in attendance applauded and broke into a rousing refrain of “Happy Birthday to You”. After the cake and the presents, the kids wandered off into the den to play with Trevor’s new cache of toys. When things settled a bit Bonnie took Keith by the hand and they walked out to the barn to feed. Evening chores was their favorite time because they could be alone and feed horse cookies to their miracle mare, Posi. The couple stood at a stall enjoying the quiet of the moment and listened to the peaceful rhythm of the horses eating the evening’s feeding of hay. They reminisced about how Posi became the foal that changed their lives.
